Walking to Work: Not for the fat or timid, oh wait...

So we're in a new apartment about 1 mile away from the University and rather than leave really early and wait like an hour for work start I decided, like a dumb person, to walk at 7:30ish and get to work around 8:00ish, which by the way I did. However, this is something I would prefer not to do again, if at all possible.

First, the sun is hot. Obviously, but what I mean is that it is hotter than you would imagine it to be in the morning if you don't usually walk outside for a mile at 7:30 in the morning.

Second, grass is very wet. I am wearing jeans and sneakers. My sneakers got soaked. My jeans got wet half way up my knees from grass that bearly rose above my ankle. Very annoying.

Third, traffic. Seriously, does everybody have to go to work the same time as I do? I had to wait 4 and a half minutes to cross the spur at the light.


This is my route, basically, although I cut through the parking lot of the business building rather than walk around it.

Summer

It is now officially summer, for about 7 days now, or a week I suppose. A lot has happened since the semester ended. Now I am still working up at the CS Lab, which is a pretty nice job. However we are out of that rat hole called Varsity Place, although I don't know if even rats would want to live there. Our new place is great. Huge, and everything is new, plus it is all in the shade, mostly. It's also downstairs, sure we have annoying loud people upstairs who apparently wear hiking boots or some kind of metal exoskeleton because they don't just walk they stomp all over the place.


Side note, I am listening to Pandora right now, totally cool music. Check it out at Pandora.com, they basically let you listen to whatever you want for free. It is hard to concentrate because at this moment I am listening to Kiss, Rock and Roll all Nite, and I can't stop singing and it is really messing with my typing, good thing for backspace.


Ok, its done.


I have lots of pictures I want to post, however I need to get them off my microSD card first. So maybe this weekend I'll post some entries.


Oh, well besides that I also got Lego Indiana Jones for the PC. I love it, haven't played that much, but so far totally cool game.

Oh yeah, back to apartment, we finally got a coffee table, a cheap one from Walmart, the Parsons coffee table essentially just a flat thick piece of wood that has been painted black and four legs, also painted black that you just screw into the bottom of the table. Easy to setup and it actually looks decent.

It sort of looks like this one, although this one is actually leather, why anyone would want a leather coffee table I don't understand at all. Seriously.

Other than that I don't have too much to say, except NICE cliffhanger as it were regarding BSG. Revelations was a good episode and I am curious anyone knows what city that was supposed to represent. I've heard everything from New York to London to D.C., but frankly I suppose it is equally plausible to be a made up city.

U.S.S. Independence - Axis of Evil Beware!

Navy launches U.S.S. Independence, first of new class of weapons-bristling speedster trimarans

We’ve been hearing rumblings about the U.S. Navy’s triple-hulled ships, but here’s one that was launched last month, the U.S.S Independence. Built by General Dynamics, it’s called a “littoral combat ship” (LCS), and the trimaran can move huge weapons around faster than any ship in the Navy. Ironic that with all that high tech built in, the ship reminds us of the Merrimac ironclad from Civil War days.

Littoral means close to shore, and that’s where these fleet-hulled babies will operate, tailor-made for launching helicopters and armored vehicles, sweeping mines and firing all manner of torpedoes, missiles and machine guns.

These ships were designed to be relatively inexpensive — this one’s a bargain at $208 million — and the navy plans to build 55 of them. This trimaran is the first of the new fire-breathing breed, ready to scoot out of dry dock at a rumored 60 knots. It's like a speedy and heavily-armed aircraft carrier for helicopters.

So I took my first two finals today in International Business and my on line access course. I think both went really well and hopefully I'll know what my grades are and soon. Of course the true test will be next week when final grades are posted.

Buenos Dias

I am growing a beard/mustache now...I am note sure how it will turn out, but so far the results are promising, if it weren't for the fact that it has only been a few weeks and some people look like this after a few days. However I am not letting this discourage me.
Anyway, I'll posts updates and we'll see how my beard is doing.
