Microsoft Blesses LGPL, Joins Apache Foundation

As told on Slashdot:

Penguinisto writes "According to a somewhat jaw-dropping story in The Register, it appears that Microsoft has performed a trifecta of geek-scaring feats: They have joined the Apache Software Foundation as a Platinum member(at $100K USD a year), submitted LGPL-licensed patches for ADOdb, and have pledged to expand their Open Specifications Promise by adding to the list more than 100 protocols for interoperability between its Windows Server and the Windows client. While I sincerely doubt they'll release Vista under a GPL license anytime soon, this is certainly an unexpected series of moves on their part, and could possibly lead to more OSS (as opposed to 'Shared Source') interactivity between what is arguably Linux' greatest adversary and the Open Source community." (We mentioned the announced support for the Apache Foundation earlier today, as well.)

Well, what an odd turn of events.

Wal-Mart 4GB Flash Drive Cheap

So you may have clicked on the link and seen this drive is still $30. However I found the exact same one in stores for $19.88. And it's 2GB cousing was only $12.88. Considering my largest drive is a several years old 512MB, also Sandisk. I decided 4GB at this price, not bad at all. So the moral of the story is always check to see if things are on sale and if they are, buy them.

Update: I did notice however Wal-Mart has a Kingston 4GB DataTraveler 100 USB 2.0 Flash Drive for $19.88. However, from personal experience of having owned a 1GB Data Traveler several years ago I can't really recommend this product, although it is cheap.

Orson Scott Card's 'Ender's Game' Review Chapters 1-5

So, I picked up Ender's Game at Barnes and Noble yesterday for a reasonable $6.99. I had heard good things and figured that I would enjoy it and boy was I right. I spent this morning before work reading the first five chapters. I have to say I really like this book. It's a definite page turner, always moving, but still deep into character development. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next, although I won't be reading more until the morning.

Additionally, in searching for a link to place in the title, I came across which happens to be a movie based on the title, apparently written by Card. Although it says pre-production, I for one would seriously look forward to seeing a movie based on this book that isn't Starship Troopers, which I understand was loosely based on this book.

Anyway, all for now, more later. Also I will give a full in depth review of the whole book when I am completely done, maybe.

# Indicates Monday Night Football
All Times are PST

*Please be aware that as part of the National Football League’s agreement with NBC to televise Sunday Night Football, the NFL has implemented a flexible schedule for Sunday start times for the final seven weeks of the season.

This will allow the NFL to bring more attractive match-ups to a national audience late in the season. If any of the 49ers games are moved from the original start time, fans will be notified 12 days prior to the date of the game with the exception of a Week 17 game, where the notification will be six days to ensure a Sunday Night game with playoff implications. Starting time changes will be publicized on and through the local print, electronic and internet media.

Puppy plays fetch

The puppy played fetch. It was fun.

4th of July

We had fun. Also, these pictures weren't blurry when I took them, I think.

The puppy had a little too much excitement and got all tuckered out.

More Wiring Closet

I wanted to comapre the before and after at the same angle, so I took an extra shot.

Square Enix To Make Chrono Trigger DS

Cleaning Up Research

So I spent all day today, (this morning) moving stuff around. Boy, not fun, but I do have some pictures. The results aren't pretty right now, but they will be in a week or two. Next week is a busy week for us, so I probably won't get to work on it until the week after next. Anyway, delightful pics of all my hard work. Note they are all after the fact, since I couldn't take pictures as I was working. I should have taken some before and after pictures, but I didn't, oh well.

Water at Varsity Place

So, it rained last month pretty bad a few times, once it flooded the parking lot in front of our old place. I took some pics with cell phone, but they didn't really turn out.

The water actually reached to the bottom of Chelsea's car. Thankfully, the stupid drain started working. There was a lot of water.
